WeDo Love to Tinker

Inspired by Daedalus and the idea of tinkering, and by Talos, possibly the first robot ever imagined way back in Greek Mythology - 3rd graders experimented with our Lego WeDo robotics kits. With some creativity, sensors, and programming, it was a very busy day! Check out some footage of our day in the video below.

Passion Project Progresses!

5th graders are hard at work on their final GT project! They were to design their own project. They must LEARN something, CREATE/DO something, and SHARE something. All projects are off to a great start! We have fundraisers for a cause, rollercoasters, novels, screenplays with costumes and props, science experiments, actual blacksmithing, and even animated animal battles! With 20 separate projects happening in class the class is alive with energy! It is fun to see how driven and focused the students are as they work on their self-designed projects! Presentations will be May 2. I can't wait to see the amazing things these creative kids do!

Peep Pursuit

Third graders were on the case of the stolen peeps this week! Luckily, we were in good hands as these sly sleuths were in pursuit of the peep perp! Our peeps (yes, marshmallow goodness) were taken! Evidence, interrogating the suspects, and finally solving the case took much of our day!

Ozobot SweetHeart Round-up

5th graders relied on their computational thinking, creativity, and collaboration as they worked through the design process. Programming, trying, and tweaking is surprisingly complex!Check out their amazing creations!

Valentiny Express: Balloon Powered Vehicles

Third graders had the ever important task of designing a balloon powered vehicle that could deliver Valentine Hearts quickly! Check out their design process as they plan, build, try, and redesign. Success is sweet when you work this hard!

Fingerprinting and Chromatography

3rd grade sleuths are on the case! Who touched the iPad? They can figure it out! Then the mysterious case where students used a chromatography lab to determine WHO wrote the note.

Instant Challenge!

Third graders were put to the test as they attempted to meet an impromptu challenge with limited time and materials. The secret to success: teamwork and communication! Check out this frantic 10 minute building challenge.

Observations and Inferences

Our third grade sleuths observed evidence under a microscope and with some very TOP SECRET clues attempted to make an inference as to what the mystery microscopic object was. Check out the video footage!

Fred's Big Adventure

3rd graders were thrilled this week as they planned Fred's adventure sailing around the world. A bit of geography, and a whole lot of creativity were needed as they used our Lego WeDo robotic kits to create a moving boat for Fred and designed backdrops to help tell the story. Ozobot Races

What is cute, has wheels, and you can hold it in your hand? Ozobot! Students were able to test their coding skills today during the Ozobot race. Each track had to be at least 100cm, have 5 different codes, and at least three 90 degree turns. Check out the final race! Today students also finalized their invention plans and are ready to start building!

Chess, Numbers, and Fred

Wow! The pace is picking up in 3rd grade! This week they met Mr. Arney, our chess instructor and started with the basics of chess. They completed a Numbers of Me Project where they calculated their age in dog years, figured out how much they would weigh on another planet, were introduced to square roots, and measured using the metric system. At the end of the day they were introduced to a GT mascot of sorts - Fred (the gummy worm). The poor little guy is always getting into trouble. Today students needed to get him to wear his life preserver. Students used their communication and collaboration skills and a think tank strategy to save him. Though I have a feeling Fred will end up needing their help again soon! Take a peek at our day.

United We Solve

4th Graders put their communication, teamwork, and leadership skills to the test today by attempting to solve some tough puzzles. United We Solve activities require each member to contribute since each had a clue to the solution. Check out some deep thinking in the short peek into the classroom.

4th Grade Meets Ozobots

What is adorable, can be coded, and fits in the palm of your hand? Ozobots of course. We love them! Check out the 4th graders as they learn the Ozobot language of line codes.
